Sarah's Thoughts on Yoga Therapy
What do you love most about yoga therapy?
I love witnessing the “ah-ha” moments with my clients. There is something so magical about witnessing the very moment a client comes back home to their Self. The moment when they realize that they in fact, can, do the really hard thing, even when it’s painful. The moment when a client hears loud and clear a whisper from their Body, after years of not communicating effectively. The moment when that piece of embodied awareness bubbles up that they found within themselves. The moment when they realize they can be in relationship with Parts of themselves while still being able to lead with the Self. The moment when they realize that their pain, their trauma, their struggles no longer define who they ARE but rather an experience that they’ve had. It’s my deepest honor to witness these moments, they’re pure magic!
What do you wish everyone knew about yoga therapy?
I wish people knew that they don’t need to have EVER attended a Yoga class, and they don't even need to “like” yoga to benefit fromYoga Therapy! In fact…. these are my favorite people to work with because they show up with no expectations! Yoga Therapy is a way to reconnect with your Self, using your Body as a vehicle for that connection and union. While cognitive therapy uses the mind and thought patterns as a basis for the work, Yoga Therapy is a type of somatic therapy that uses the body and sensations as a basis for the work! As long as you have a body that you’re ready to explore and be with, Yoga Therapy is for you!
How do you embody yoga therapy in your life?
Many of my clients will say that the Self awareness they’ve cultivated through their work with me is a double-edged sword… if you’re making space to feel again, it means that you’re feeling it ALL (even the hard stuff). I say YES, but isn’t that better than feeling nothing? I live my life so deeply and profoundly connected to my Body, it really informs everything! I make choices with my Body, tuning into my Body saying Yes, No or Maybe through different sensations. I use my breath as a way to gather information in my nervous system, and I also use it to create change in my Body. My work as a Yoga Therapist has profoundly changed the way that I live my life because I can’t unlearn all of the embodied wisdom that my Body has shared with me!
